PDF to JPG โ Complete Guide
Best uses for PDF to JPG conversion
Converting a PDF to JPG images is ideal when you need to share document content in a format that everyone can view without special software. Common scenarios include: extracting a certificate or award from a PDF to post on LinkedIn, turning presentation slides into images for embedding in a website or blog post, creating preview thumbnails of document pages for a website gallery, or extracting a diagram or infographic from a report to share on social media. JPG is also the format most compatible with email clients when attaching images rather than documents.
JPG vs PNG โ which to choose?
JPG uses lossy compression and produces smaller file sizes, making it ideal for sharing photographs, scanned documents, and pages with lots of colour imagery. The compression is barely noticeable at normal viewing sizes. PNG is lossless and produces larger files, but is better for documents with sharp text edges, diagrams, logos, and screenshots where quality is critical and file size is less important. If you are converting a PDF to post on a website or social media, JPG is usually the better choice. If you need pixel-perfect output for printing or further design work, use the PDF to PNG tool instead.
Working with multi-page PDFs
When you convert a multi-page PDF to JPG, each page becomes its own numbered image file (page-001.jpg, page-002.jpg, etc.). All files are packaged in a ZIP archive. To use just one page, download the ZIP, open it, and extract only the image you need. If you need to upload the images to a service that does not accept ZIP files, extract all images to a folder first and upload them individually. Most modern operating systems can extract ZIP files by right-clicking and selecting "Extract All" (Windows) or double-clicking (Mac).
